There is Rhythm in the North: Toronto Tempo unveil home court for inaugural season
By Courtney Nielson
It has been 497 days since the Toronto Tempo announced its identity as one of the two new franchises joining the Women’s National Basketball Association in its 30th season. Two weeks ahead of the season, Tempo fans got a glimpse of what can be expected at home games inside Coca-Cola Coliseum.
The “Before the Bounce” event brought together passionate fans who had the opportunity to experience the unveiling of the Tempo’s home court. The design featured the team’s colours: Tempo Bordeaux (a rich red with purple undertones) along the border, and Borealis Blue (a soft periwinkle) at the three-point line and key, supported by black and white accents.
With a t-shirt toss, giveaways, and fan interaction prioritized, fans described the atmosphere as passionate as they celebrated Canada bringing a new league and franchise north of the border.
Tempo head coach Sandy Brondello discussed the season ahead with President Teresa Resch and General Manager Monica Wright Rogers at her side.
The job was simple: form a full 20-player roster in preparation for their inaugural season, which kicks off on April 29. She told the crowd that the goal is to build a world-class franchise while fostering a strong team identity.
With clean lines and rhythmic patterns, fans were treated to a performance from the team’s 15-person dance crew, chosen from 125 applicants, who revealed their name as the Rhythm Section.
The newest addition to the team, Canadian basketball all-star Kia Nurse, and partial owner Masai Ujiri were in attendance on the sidelines.
The message was clear: the Tempo are building something big, and fans are witnessing it from day one – becoming part of the team’s history.
